Venus Williams, at age 43, is one of the oldest active players on the WTA Tour.
Understandably, the former World No. 1 has taken things at her own pace, participating in only select tournaments. With only five tour-level appearances in 2023, her record stands at 2-5.
Last week, Williams played in the Canadian Open, where she lost her opening match to Madison Keys. Before that, she endured a similar fate in Wimbledon at the hands of Elina Svitolina.
Of course, these results are not entirely surprising, given the tough draws and her lack of momentum. That said, these results should not overshadow her impeccable pedigree and an exceptional career spanning decades and multiple Grand Slams.
Interestingly, Cincinnati Open is one of the few WTA 1000 events where Venus has not reached the final.

Kudermetova Starting her US Swing
Veronika Kudermetova is set to start her US Open practice in Cincinnati this week.
The Russian’s last tournament was in Wimbledon, where she endured a shock upset against the eventual champion Marketa Vondrousova in round two.
2023 has been a pretty mediocre year for Kudermetova; she has 25 wins against 14 losses and is currently ranked World No. 16.
This is not to say she didn’t have her moments. Veronika was a semifinalist in Madrid and Rome 1000 and the WTA 500 events in Adelaide and Doha. Lastly, she was a runner-up in Den Bosch as well.
Looking at her record in Cinci, Kudermetova has only reached round three a couple of times.
Williams v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova should win this one. As much as we want to back Williams for this match, it is unlikely to see her match the energy of a 26-year-old. Nevertheless, stranger things have happened to punters may want to place an odd buck or two on Venus for good luck.
