Francisco Cerundolo v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

Cerundolo and Lajovic have never faced off before this.

Cerundolo 7-6 in Hardcourt Competitions in 2023

Hardcourt surfaces aren’t Cerundolo’s most preferred ones but it looked like things were changing for the better when he reached the third round at the Australian Open.

He would then go on to make the quarterfinals at the Miami Masters, overpowering Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Sonego on his way to that spot.

Unfortunately for the Argentine, he hasn’t done too much of note otherwise in hardcourt competitions this year. Or any season for that matter.

The world number 22 featured in the Canadian Masters last week where he needed three sets to overcome the 192nd-ranked Alexis Galarneau in the first round before dumped out Tommy Paul in the second.

Now coming into a tournament where he’s not won a match before this, Cerundolo will have his work cut out but should at least make round two here.

Lajovic in First Hardcourt Tournament Since Miami

That Lajovic isn’t much of a fan of hardcourt tennis is no secret. In fact his career record says it all with the Serb having a 49% win record on clay and a mere 39% on hardcourts.

And some of it can be seen from the way in which Lajovic opted not to feature in any of the hardcourt competitions since featuring at Wimbledon – where too, he had been bundled out in the very first round by Jan Choinski.

The good news for Lajovic is he has managed to make it through the qualifiers here, overcoming two tricky opponents in their own right.

Lajovic was at 8/9 odds to win his opener against Rinky Hijikata and then 6/5 underdog against Jason Kubler in those qualifying rounds but won both of them in straight sets to make it through. He will now hope he can turn things around in the main draw too but has an opponent ranked 45 places ahead of him.

Cerundolo v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Not surprisingly, Cerundolo is a favourite here and at 1/2 we will have to say those are tempting odds to go with it.
