World no. 17 Alexander Zverev needed just an hour and 12 minutes to dispatch Grigor Dimitrov in the first round on Monday.

The German served eight aces, saved both the break points that he faced and converted half of four to beat the world no. 19, 6-2, 6-2.

The 2021 champion has advanced to the second round of the tournament for the sixth time in his eighth attempt. He has gone past the round 2 only once that was when he defeated Andrey Rublev for the title two years ago.

The 26-year-old improved to 35-19 this season.

A 20-time champion from 31 finals, Zverev reached his only final of the season in Hamburg in July, clinching the title by beating Laslo Djere.

Since that win in Hamburg, he played in Toronto, going down in the second round. Can he build on the start he has got in Cincinnati?
