Taylor Fritz v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the clay courts of Lyon in 2018 and Lajovic had won that in straight sets.

While Fritz was a straight-set winner over Lorenzo Sonego in the second round in Cincinnati it wasn’t the most straightforward of wins.
In a match lasting an hour and 44 minutes, Fritz was broken twice and at one point, trailed 1-3 in the first set before clawing his way back into the encounter and winning 6-4, 7-6 (1).
Having already featured in a 30-point long tie-breaker in his first round encounter with Jiri Lehecka in which he had saved five set-points, Fritz broke Sonego back twice in the opening set before serving it out to love.
The momentum, however, did not quite shift in his favour with Sonego managing to hold on to his serve in the entirety of the second set despite facing three break-points. In the end, Fritz came through easily in the ensuing tie-breaker.

Lajovic Stuns Sinner
Jannik Sinner had entered the Cincinnati Masters on the back of a title win at the Canadian Masters and was a whopping 1/10 (with bet365) to ease past Lajovic. As things turned out, it was Lajovic who did the easing bit – and the shocking as well – winning in straight sets.
Lajovic carved out a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Sinner to register his fourth successive win of the tournament having earlier made it through the qualifiers.
What’s interesting to note is that Lajovic hasn’t gone in any of these four matches, including against Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler in the qualifying rounds, as a favourite by any stretch. And yet, here he is, in the third round for the first time in Cincinnati and the third time in a Masters 1000 event this year.
A fresher Fritz will be a difficult opponent to come up against and it’s no surprise that Lajovic starts off a 7/2 (with bet365) underdog.
Fritz v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
While Lajovic has been on a good run and has previously done that too, expecting him to defeat two top-10 players in successive matches is probably expecting too much. A straight-set win on the cards for Fritz.
