Dominic Thiem v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the Kitzbuhel Open earlier this year. Thiem won that clay-court encounter in three sets.

Thiem Returns to Hardcourt Tennis

Thiem was a win away from clinching his first ever ATP title since 2020 when he reached the final of the Kitzbuhel Open earlier this year.

With that kind of a resurrection, he will enter this tournament at the Winston-Salem Open in a bid to tune up for the US Open but what’s been fascinating to see is that the Austrian hasn’t played a single match in hardcourt competitions since his first round exit at the Miami Masters in March.

So, no tournaments played by Thiem in the North American hardcourt swing either.

While it’s surprising it could well be down to his form in hardcourt competitions with Thiem having played four matches on it and lost all four this year. Plus a direct entry might not have been forthcoming either.

He will now hope he can notch up a few solid performances in the lead-up to the US Open, a tournament he had once won.

Rinderknech’s Last Match was Against Thiem!

It’s interesting to see that Rinderknech has had similar issues to Thiem this year when it comes to playing in hardcourt competitions.

The Frenchman, like Thiem, hasn’t played on this surface since Miami either and his overall record on hardcourt in 2023 is 2-7. And like Thiem, Rinderknech hasn’t featured in any of the North American hardcourt competitions either, missing both the Masters tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati.

In fact the last time Rinderknech took to court, he was on a seven-match winning streak having won the Challenger tournament in Zug and then reached the quarterfinal in Kitzbuhel.

Wins over Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Yannick Hanfmann would have given him the confidence there but he had then fallen to Thiem in the quarterfinal, in what was their maiden meeting.

Can he turn things around here?

Thiem v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip

Thiem will hold a slight edge in what seems to be a battle between two hardcourt-averse players for this season. A three-setter looks likely.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Thiem to win: 8/11 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5 (with bet365)
