It was a bit of a surprise to see Noskova miss out on the Canadian Open because she has done exceedingly well on both sides of that tournament.
For starters, Noskova made the quarterfinals of the Warsaw Open where her campaign was understandably ended by Iga Swiatek. Not to be outdone, however, Noskova marched into the final of the hardcourt competition in Prague and then was forced to come through the qualifiers at the Cincinnati Open.
With Magdalena Frech and Diane Parry sent on their way, Noskova then stunned Liudmilla Samsonova and Petra Kvitova in successive rounds to reach the third.

Fernandez Falls in Cincinnati Qualifiers
After having begun the North American hardcourt swing with a couple of solid performances in Washington and Montreal, Fernandez was ousted in the Cincinnati Open qualifiers. Taking on the 8/5 underdog (with bet365) Emma Navvaro in the opening qualifier, Fernandez fell to a surprise three-set loss.
At Washington, Fernandez had come through the qualifiers before overcoming Bernarda Pera in the opener.
She followed this performance up with an appearance at her home tournament where she was decidedly good to begin things off. The former US Open finalist sent in-form American Peyton Stearns packing before registering a three-set win over Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second.
While Danielle Collins ended her stay in the competition in the third round and the Cincinnati debacle followed soon after, Fernandez will know she has the game to push the favourite Noskova here.
