Fitness looks to have been Siniakova’s concern this year and that has resulted in the Czech not winning as often as she would have liked.
In March, Siniakova had opted out of a few competitions, having retired from her Miami Open opener against Claire Liu and only returned to competitive tennis in May end.
Since then, it’s been a strange set of results for Siniakova.
She started off with back to back losses before winning a title at the Bad Homburg Open. And since then, in the five matches she has played, Siniakova has won just one. Sorribes Tormo Hasn’t Played Hardcourt Main Draw in 2023
Much like Siniakova, Sorribes Tormo has has her fitness issues. In fact she was out of action for slightly longer than Siniakova, having begun her season only during the clay court swing in April.
Since then she has done well on clay, at both the ITF and WTA levels, winning 16 of the 25 matches she has played there.
Unfortunately for her, that has meant that when she came into Cincinnati for the qualifiers, Sorribes Tormo failed to make it past the first qualifying round there. And then lost against Clara Burel in the second qualifier at this tournament.
It’s only as a lucky loser has she managed to qualify for the main draw and while Sorribes Tormo takes on an out of sorts Siniakova, she still doesn’t start off as a favourite. bet365 is offering 1/1 for her victory which speaks volumes about what one is thinking of her chances in hardcourt competitions at the moment.
