Yannick Hanfmann v Juan Manuel Cerundolo Head to Head
There has only been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in the qualifiers of the Buenos Aires Open earlier this year. Hanfmann won it in three sets.

While Hanfmann enters this tournament with an opening round bye as a result of being seeded, he also comes into his second round match on the back of three successive defeats before this.
Those came in Hamburg, Kitzbuhel and in the first round of the Cincinnati Masters where he was sent packing by Mackenzie McDonald.
That, however, cannot take away from the fact that Hanfmann has witnessed the form of his life this year. A run of excellent performances in ATP 250 tournaments on clay culminated in Hanfmann making the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters despite starting out as a qualifier in that tournament.
Wins over Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev put Hanfmann into the top 50 of the ATP Rankings.
Later he also made the semifinal on the grass court of Mallorca before his more recent form has hit a bit of a roadblock. And now that he will be playing on a surface he isn’t too fond of, things could have been difficult but for the fact that he is up against another clay court specialist.

Cerundolo Shocks Safiullin
Juan Manuel is the brother of Francisco, the more renowned of the Cerundolo siblings but his performance in the first round here could put him on the tennis map too. Or at least give him the confidence that he belongs to this level.
Starting out a whopping 5/1 (with bet365) underdog in his opener, Cerundolo found a way to carve himself a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 win over Safiullin to reach the second round.
This was only Cerundolo’s fourth win in a hardcourt match at the highest level, which is excellent going for a player who has played a total of 15 matches across all levels of the sport on it.
The match lasted two hours and 36 minutes and saw Cerundolo get 14 opportunities to break his opponent. He broke Safiullin twice including once in the first set when he levelled the score at 1-1.
