Iga Swiatek v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings and Swiatek has won both. Both those matches came in Grand Slams in 2021 and 2022 respectively

Swiatek 27-6 on Hardcourts This Year
Swiatek enters the US Open as the defending champion having clinched the trophy last year as her third Grand Slam title victory. She has, since, added a fourth – at the French Open earlier this year – but in hardcourt tennis hasn’t shown the same kind of invincibility as she had done last season.
Make no mistake though, given how Swiatek had gone about her business in 2022, it would be very difficult for anyone, including the Polish number one herself, to replicate that kind of a season.
While Swiatek has managed a near replica of the same on clay from 2022, her record in hardcourt competitions this year reads 27-6, as opposed to the 39-5 she was last season.
This isn’t to say that Swiatek’s record isn’t good – far from it actually. Two of her four titles this season have come on hardcourt surfaces too but what would have irked her, if not bothered her, a bit is her lack of finishing at the Australian Open, Indian Wells Open, Montreal Open and the Cincinnati Open last week.
At each of them, Swiatek had gone in as a title favourite but failed to make the final.
Can she live up to her title hopes at the US Open? She starts off a whopping 1/40 favourite to win this opener (with bet365).

Peterson Struggling at the Highest Level
She was once on the verge of breaking into the top 40 but Peterson is now 92nd in the world and struggling to win matches at the highest level of tennis.
In fact, the last time she played in the main draw of a WTA 250 (or above) event was at Bastad more than a month and a half ago, reaching the second in the process.
Since then, Peterson has been a part of a WTA 250 qualifier, an ITF tournament and two competitions on the WTA 125 level. And while she did make it to the second round of the Stanford Open and the quarterfinal in Chicago, there’s not too much else to boast about for Peterson in recent times.
This coming from a player who had kick-started her season with a final at the Merida Open and a fourth round appearance in the Indian Wells Open.
The bottom-line is that Peterson is a capable player but struggling with fitness and form worries, and to go with the fact that she will be up against the world number one, it could well be a struggle.
