While de Minaur fell in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters, losing to Gael Monfils in straight sets, it wasn’t before he had had an excellent run at his two previous tournaments.
It started with his performance at the Los Cabos Open where de Minaur overcame Tommy Paul en route the final. He lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the title-decider.
This was followed by de Minaur stunning Cameron Norrie, Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev on his way to the final of the Canadian Masters. This time around, it was Jannik Sinner who prevented him from winning the eighth ATP title and the second of the season.
De Minaur had earlier won a hardcourt title in Acapulco which gives him a 21-9 win-loss record for the year.

Skatov Cruises in Qualifiers
In what was Skatov’s just fourth tournament on hardcourt this season, Skatov made it through to the main draw with three really easy wins in the qualifiers.
It started with Skatov defeating Kaichi Uchida 6-2, 6-2 in the first qualifying round before sending Raul Brancaccio out of the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win. James Duckworth was the favourite going into their third qualifier round but Skatov dropped a mere four games in routing his Aussie opponent.
Skatov had earlier won a match in the United Cup, his only hardcourt main draw win of the year. Other than that, and a Wimbledon qualifier defeat, it has been all clay for him this year.
Which is what makes things even more difficult as he takes on a player who has been in the form of his life. No surprises then that Skatov will be a distant 12/1 (with bet365) underdog coming into this encounter despite his impressive wins in the qualifiers.
