They met for the first time at the Winston-Salem Open this week and Korda won the match in straight sets.

After a gritty come-from-behind win over Richard Gasquet in the Winston Salem Open quarterfinal on Thursday, Sebastian Korda was forced to pull out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.
Korda had taken a tumble during the marathon quarterfinal which had resulted in the injury. He completed the match, but withdrew from the semifinal in hopes of recovering in time for the New York major.
Korda, who is making a fourth main draw appearance at the U.S. Open, has won just one match in his three previous appearances in the major. This year, the 23-year-old reached his first major quarterfinal at the Australian Open. He also reached a fifth career final in Adelaide, but could not add to his only title that he had won in Emilia Romagna two years ago.
A wrist injury kept Korda out of action after the brilliant start down under, and he wasn’t consistent since his return. While he seemed to have found form in Winston-Salem, it will be interesting to see if he can recovery from the ankle injury quickly and make a good start in New York.

Fucsovics
World no. 58 Marton Fucsovics is 17-15 at the tour level this season and 28-19 overall, which includes a Challenger title he won in Canberra at the start of the season.
The Hungarian, who made it to the round of 16 in Indian Wells, produced his best result of the season in Stuttgart, where he was a semifinalist.
Most recently, he went down fighting to Korda in a close to two hour second round contest at the Winston-Salem Open. Fucsovics lost the first set in the tiebreak and then was edged out in a hard fought second set. So the defeat may have come in straight sets, but it was not a straightforward win for Korda.
Fucsovics, who was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2021, will be making his eighth appearance at the U.S. Open. He has been beaten in the opening round five times, while he reached the third round in 202o and the second round in 2022.

It’s a tough first round contest for Korda. If he regains fitness, he is expected to win but Fucsovics won’t go down without a fight.
