Alexandrova Into Her Seventh WTA Final

World no. 22 Ekaterina Alexandrova marched into her second WTA final of the season and a seventh of her career after she ousted China’s Zhu Lin in straight sets in the semifinal on Friday.

The Russian saved 1 of 2 break points and converted 4 of 7 to beat the world no. 48, 7-5, 6-2.

It was the second straight Chinese player that Alexandrova defeated. She had bounced back against Xinyu Wang for a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 victory in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

The fourth seed had won her first two rounds in straight sets, beating Patricia Maria Țig 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round and Aliaksandra Sasnovich 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the second round.

A four-time champion from her six previous finals, Alexandrova defended the Rosmalen Open title this year.

Can the 28-year-old win her second title of the year on Saturday?

Sorribes Tormo Sees Off Maria

Lucky loser Sara Sorribes Tormo reached her second WTA career final with a straight sets win over Tatjana Maria in the semifinal on Friday.

The world no. 95, who had won her only WTA title in Guadalajara in 2021, fended off the resilient German 6-4, 6-3 in a one hour and 53 minute contest.

Sorribes Tormo came back from 2-4 down to take the first set and then controlled the second set after both broke each other in the first two games. Overall, the Spaniard saved 3 of 6 break points and converted 6 of 13.

It has been quite a journey for the former no. 32 in the tournament as she had lost to Clara Burel in the second qualifying round, only to find a place in the main draw as a lucky loser.

Sorribes Tormo has made the most of the opportunity. She got past Kateřina Siniaková in the first round after the latter retired with the score at 6-2, 4-0. The 26-year-old then trounced the third seed third seed and world no. 16  Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-1 in the second round.

Carrying that form into the quarterfinals, the Spaniard beat a third top 50 player in a row when she ousted Sloane Stephens 6-1, 6-3.

In Maria, ranked no. 49, she has now beaten four top 50 players in a row. Can she keep the momentum going and take down the fourth seed in the final?

Alexandrova v Sorribes Tormo Prediction and Tip

A 27-14 season record is a reflection of Alexandrova’s consistency this season. She has been particularly good since the tour moved to grass courts as she has gone 14-3 since the start of the tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Given that form, she is expected to win the final and clinch her second title of the season.
