Veronika Kudermetova v Bernarda Pera Head to Head
There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Kudermetova leads 3-2. Two of these matches came in the qualifiers of events while in the three hardcourt matches, Pera is 2-1 ahead. They last played in 2021.

It could be to do with a left hip injury at the Berlin Open that had forced Kudermetova to withdraw from her third round match against fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova which could be the cause for her lack of form in recent times.
Coming into that encounter, Kudermetova was on a bit of a roll, having won six of her previous seven matches including a victory over Aryna Sabalenka as well. Add the semifinal appearances at the Madrid and Italian Open and we were looking at a player hoping to push higher than her career-best ranking of ninth in the world.
Unfortunately for Kudermetova, she looks to have lost that momentum following the hip issue.
She returned at Wimbledon, only to lose to Marketa Vondrousova in the second round before crashing out in the first round at the Cincinnati Open. And then forced to feature in a tournament leading up to the US Open, at the Cleveland Open, the Russian was barely at her best.
Kudermetova was taken to three sets by Nadia Podoroska and was crushed by Sara Sorribes Tormo following that.

Pera on a Four-Match Losing Streak
The good news for Kudermetova is that her opponent is herself in a lot of strife on court. Pera hasn’t won a match in over a month, and will start off this opening round match with a fifth successive defeat staring at her.
In fact, since reaching the fourth round at the French Open, Pera has featured in eight tournaments and made it past the first round in just two of them. She has lost eight matches and won a mere three.
Making matters worse for Pera is her record at the US Open which is a lowly two main draw matches won in her career so far. And none of those have come in the last two editions either with Pera falling to opening losses.
So while we do think that against a possibly not-so-fit Kudermetova, odds of 3/1 (with bet365) look a bit too long, Pera won’t be having it too easy either.

Kudermetova will hope to get her fitness woes out of her way but Pera could come out fighting. A keen tussle could result in a three-set win for Kudermetova.
