Last US Open, Tomljanovic had ended Serena Williams’ career with a hard-fought win in the third round. She would go on to make the quarterfinals before losing to Ons Jabeur in a fighting two-setter.
Unfortunately for Tomljanovic, she was unable to do too much more than that in 2022, losing in the first round of two tournaments, going down in the second round of two others before wrapping up the season at the Billie Jean King Cup.
A knee injury struck Tomljanovic soon after and just as she was about to break into the top 30 for the first time in her career, she was forced to miss the entirety of the 2023 season so far because of that.
Tomljanovic has said her knee was “feeling good” and with all eyes on the Aussie, it remains to be seen if she is now match-fit enough to survive the New York weather. Interestingly enough, she starts off an 11/20 favourite in this one with bet365.

Udvardy on US Open Debut
24-year-old Udvardy has featured at all the other Grand Slams but for the first time in her career, will be in the main draw of the US Open. She had made the qualifiers of the previous two editions of this tournament but lost in the first qualifying round at both.
Once ranked 76th in the world, Udvardy has now fallen to 124th as a result of some quite underwhelming performances this season.
In fact she enters this tournament on the back of four successive losses, including one on the ITF circuit and two in WTA 125 tournaments. Overall she is 12-19 for the season with her career Grand Slam record no better.
Udvardy has won just one main draw match at a major or a WTA 1000 competition in her career, making it quite unsurprising to find her start a huge second favourite at 6/4 (with bet365) to overcome the returning Tomljanovic.
