Anastasia Potapova’s US Open preparations haven’t been perfect, thus raising questions about how she can manage a tricky opener against the Dane prodigy.
The 22-year-old Russian participated in the build-up events in Washington DC, Montreal, and Cincinnati – but walked away with just one win in the three (beating Celine Naef in three sets).
Nevertheless, Potapova has had a career-best season with a record of 28-17 and a singles ranking of World No. 27. She won the Linz Open in February and later reached the closing stages in Miami and Stuttgart. In these events, Anastasia knocked out some big names like Caroline Garcia, Coco Gauff, Marketa Vondrousova, and Qinwen Zheng.
In addition, she made it to round three in her last two majors – but that is something that may not be possible at the Flushing Meadows.

Tauson in a Similar Boat
Following her breakthrough season in 2021 and a slow cooldown in 2022, Clara Tauson seems to be at it once again – determined to go further up.
She has 29 wins to 16 losses – which is already better than her last year’s close at 26-18.
Now ranked World No. 90, the 20-year-old Tauson last played in Cleveland, where she retired in round two against Leylah Fernandez, trailing 0-6.
While much of her season is speckled with such early losses, Clara has had her moments. Notably, she made it to round three in the French Open as a qualifier and reached the final of two ITF tournaments.
The former #33 is certainly a force to be reckoned with. In a relatively short span, Tauson has beaten a few big players like Paula Badosa, Anett Kontaveit, Belinda Bencic, and Jelena Ostapenko. Potapova shouldn’t be too big of a stretch.
