Brady Returns to US Open for the First Time Since 2020
A knee injury kept her out of action for two years, but Jennifer Brady has returned to professional tennis during the North American swing this year.
A former world no. 13, Brady is currently ranked no. 428th in the world. She will be making her fifth appearance at the US Open and a first since her semifinal finish in 2020. The 2021 Australian Open runner-up has not played a major since her third round finish at the French Open the same year.
This year, the 28-year-old returned to action at the Granby ITF, where she won the first round before losing the second. She then played in three WTA tournaments, winning her first round matches in Washington and Montreal, against Anhelina Kalinina and Jeļena Ostapenko respectively, but she fell in the second round of both the tournaments.
She also played in Cincinnati, but lost the opener to Donna Vekic. She has not gone deep in tournaments, but has looked good in whatever little she has played so far. Expect her to make a good start in the tournament.

It will be the first time in her career that she will be competing in the New York major.
The Aussie, world no. 112, had beaten Leyre Romero Gormaz 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-2 in the first qualifying round and Darja Semenistaja 6-3, 6-4 in the second qualifying round.
Birrell is 33-25 across levels this year and that includes two ITF titles. At the tour level, she was a quarterfinalist in Merida but hasn’t been successful in other tournaments.
