Wu Eyeing to Replicate 2022
Yibing Wu had a really strong showing in the 2022 US Open, where he made it to the 3rd round, losing to Daniil Medvedev. Before that, Wu won five matches, including three qualifying matches and two main round matches, indicating a pretty high comfortability with the conditions in New York.
He arrives in the city this year in a slightly different mood. Much of his matches this year happened on the ATP Tour, and he’s been okay with an 18-17 level. He’s 5-6 on hard courts, which is strange as he opened the season well, winning the Dallas Open in February.
Since then it’s been a rather bleak showing with only one win in the last 8 matches he played. He hasn’t played well in Atlanta or Washington making it backing him really hard.
He’s a decent enough player, but he’s not playing as well as he can recently, which isn’t good when going up against Lajovic who has been pretty solid.

Lajovic Fins Form on Hard Courts
Those familiar with Lajovic understand his limitations on hard courts. He’s never been the best of them and a plethora of early exits at the US Open support that. He’s had a pretty good year though, winning a trophy and posting a 26-19 record so far.
He’s looked good even on hard courts, putting together some strong showings recently at the Cincinnati Masters. He played the qualifiers and cruised through them to even beat Sinner in the main draw.
If he can replicate that sort of form in the US Open, he’ll certainly win this matchup and quite possibly could go to the second week. He’s been that good, and honestly, it’s been surprising.
A career record of 109-100 on hard courts isn’t that great, but he found something recently. Whether he can keep it going remains to be seen.
Wu v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
While Wu might be the better hard court player, I actually favour Lajovic to win here. Wu has had some issues with the heat in the US, and I think over a best of five, the Serbian is likely to win. Another good option is the over as we might see 4-5 sets here.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Lajovic to win the match: 1/1 (with bet365)
