Hijikata Survives 4-hour Battle

Rinky Hijikata had to dig deep to get it done in the previous round against Pavel Kotov. He spent four hours on the court against the Russian ultimately winning in four sets. The match was a huge battle, very physical and tough, though Hijikata found a level higher when he needed to.

He didn’t serve as well as he could, which meant that he had to work for every point. He was aggressive, hitting over 50 winners in the match, but had four more unforced errors. Luckily, Kotov had even more, which is what allowed Hijikata to win the match.

He’s been pretty good this year with a 31-27 record overall, and most of those wins naturally came on hard courts. New York can play towards his strengths; however he needs to be aggressive and is quite vulnerable against players who like to play attacking tennis.

That will make the matchup against Fucsovics quite tough, but he can produce a good enough effort to win.

Fucsovics Survives Thriller

Marton Fucsovics had a really tough job in the opening round playing against Sebastian Korda. The American bested Fucsovics just a few days ago, which makes this even more impressive. It went to five sets, which was expected considering how close their recent match was.

The battle lasted almost five hours, with Fucsovics emerging in five sets. The Hungarian played a very strange match serving at a decent level with 11 aces. He wasn’t very precise from the baseline, though, as he had 38 winners but also 65 unforced errors.

Both he and Korda weren’t very precise, but Fucsovics had fewer mistakes. It matters in close matches like this one. Another one is coming up against Hijikata, and he’ll need to be a bit more precise in that one.

The Australian will likely bait him in most rallies, and missing a lot would be a catastrophe for Fucsovics. He’s been pretty good this year, with a 29-19 record so far.

Hijikata v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

This one might come down to who has fresher legs. Both played 4+ hours in the previous round, and that will factor into the match. I tend to think Fucsovics has an edge when looking at tennis purely. If he feels fresh as well then he’ll likely win.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Fucsovics to win AND Both players to win a set: 13/10 (with bet365)
