The Russian struck 8 aces and 41 winners, did not face a single break point and converted 6 of 14 break points to beat the Hungarian 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 in just an hour and 17 minutes.
The 27-year-old world no. 3 improved his season record to 50-11. He is a 20-time tour level champion and has featured in six finals this year, winning five of them.
At the US Open, Medvedev improved his record to 24-5. In addition to winning his only Grand Slam title in New York in 2021, he was also a runner-up in 2019.
He has made his intentions clear in the first round and is looking set for a deep run in the tournament.

O’Connell Holds Off Purcell
World no. 69 Christopher ‘O’Connell held off compatriot Max Purcell in a four-set first round contest on Tuesday.
The close to three hour contest saw Purcell out-ace O’Connell 22-18, but the latter struck 60 winners to Purcell’s 52 and made just 34 unforced errors in the match, 13 fewer than Purcell.
O’Connell won 80% points on his first delivery, saved 7 of 11 break points and converted 5 of 14 to win the contest 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
The Australian is into the second round of the New York major for a second time. He is 25-26 across levels this year and will hope to reach the third round of a major for a third time.
