Hubert Hurkacz v Jack Draper Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players and Hurkacz has won them both. One came in the indoor hardcourts of Antwerp last year while the other was in Monte-Carlo Masters this season.

With the kind of form that Hurkacz had coming into the US Open and with his first round opponent Marc-Andrea Huesler having done so much better on clay than hardcourts, it was no surprise that the Polish number one was a 1/10 favourite coming into his opener.
That he fell two sets down and needed to win a third set tie-breaker before making a comeback to win in five speaks volumes about Hurkacz’s long-standing problems at the US Open.
Hurkacz is currently ranked 17th in the world and has been a top-10 player with a Masters 1000 title to his name but at the US Open he has never made beyond the second round in what have been five previous attempts.
And it looked like that dream wasn’t going to be fulfilled for a sixth time when Huesler won the first two sets 6-4, 7-5 and was a break up in the third.
Hurkacz broke back immediately, fell a break behind at 4-5 before breaking Huesler again to clinch the third set in a tie-breaker. And from there on, Huesler crumbled away as the world number 17 eased back into the contest to win it.

Draper Returns with Easy Win
While Draper has been tipped to be one of the British players to watch out for in the future, he will need to mind his fitness for sure.
Because it is this fitness that had forced him to miss the entire grass court swing this year and even when he returned to play at the Winston-Salem Open, Draper retired from his second round match against Tallon Griekspoor.
Which is also why his crushing first round win over Radu Albot should go a long way in appeasing his own confidence with the Brit having cruised to a 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 victory. He was a pre-match favourite at 1/4 (with bet365) sure, but for him to spend just a tick over two hours on court was a job well done.
Things might not be as easy against Hurkacz too but here’s an opponent who has himself not had the best experience at this tournament in his career. This could be a good chance for the Brit to make the third round.

Despite the obvious difference in the two players’ rankings it’s no surprise that the odds don’t reflect that much of a difference what with Hurkacz just 8/13 to win it. Backing him to clinch it but not before Draper has pushed him into at least four sets.
