For the second straight match Cameron Norrie did not lose a set as he eased past lucky loser Yu Hsiou Hsu in straight sets on Thursday.
While Norrie wasn’t even broken during his 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alexander Shevchenko in the first round, he faced some resistance from the Taipei player in the second round.
The Briton had to save three set points on his serve in the 10th game of the first set. He, however, got the solitary break of the set in the very next game and then served out the set in the next.
Hsu did manage to get two breaks in the second and another in the third, but Norrie converted 3 of 8 break points in the second and 2 of 3 in the third to clinch the two and a half hour contest 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
As a result of the victory, Norrie is into the third round for the third time at the US Open. His tournament best came last year when he made it to the fourth round.
Norrie also reached the third round at the Australian and the French Opens his year, but is yet to make a round of 16 appearance in a major in 2023. Will that happen this week?

Arnaldi Battles Past Fils
Matteo Arnaldi got into the second round after playing just 10 games in his first round contest against Jason Kubler, but if that was easy, his round of 64 contest compensated for that.
The Italian, world no. 61, needed almost four hours to thwart Frenchman Arthur Fils in a five-set thriller on Thursday.
Arnaldi struck 41 winners and made just 35 unforced errors to Fils’ 57 winners and 41 unforced errors, before going on to win the contest 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-4.
In the first round, Arnaldi was leading Kubler 6-3, 1-0 when the latter pulled out of the contest.
A semifinalist in Umag this year, Arnaldi improved to 12-9 at the tour level. He is playing at the US Open for the first time and has improved his Grand Slam record to 3-2 with the two wins.

Norrie is the clear favourite in this contest. He has looked good so far in the tournament, has far more experience than Arnaldi and also knows how to soak in the pressure of Grand Slam tennis.
