Aryna Sabalenka v Clara Burel Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at this very tournament last year and at this very stage of it. Sabalenka had won that third round match 6-0, 6-2.

In what turned out to be an identical scoreline to her first round, Sabalenka registered a straight-set win over Britain’s Jodie Burrage to march into round three.
Sabalenka was on court for an hour and 16 minutes as she registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Burrage.
Following a similar victory over Maryna Zanevska, Sabalenka was quick off the blocks in round two as well as she broke Burrage in the second game before taking a 3-0 lead. She saved a break-point in the seventh game, missed out on a set-point in the eighth before finishing off the set in the ninth.
And then in the second set, Sabalenka faced an early break-point but other than that it was all one-way traffic as she broke her opponent two more times. She served it out to love in the eighth game to finish off the encounter.
No surprises then that Sabalenka is a 1/14 favourite here with bet365 to win this.

Burel Surprises Pliskova
Karolina Pliskova’s not had too much going for her all season and as a result the former world number one has fallen to 25th in the world. That said, she was still a 1/2 favourite (bet365) to defeat Burel in the second round.
As things went, Burel needed a mere 70 minutes in demolishing Pliskova and sealing off her second successive third round berth at the US Open.
The world number 62 grabbed an early 3-0 lead with two breaks of serves and then lost her serve on two occasions. With the scores level at 4-4, Burel then overcame Pliskova’s serve for the third time in the match before serving it out to clinch the first set.
The second set proved to be an even simpler affair for Burel who broke Pliskova on two occasions to seal off the win.
Having defeated Caroline Dolehide in a similar fashion in round one, Burel will hope to put up a bigger challenge for Sabalenka than she had in 2022 at this very tournament.

Sabalenka will be a heavy favourite and any result other than a straight-set win for her looks unlikely.
