Carlos Alcaraz v Dan Evans Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Alcaraz has won them both in straight sets. This includes one earlier this year at the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz in Another Straight-Set Win Over Harris

While Lloyd Harris did try and stretch things out in the third set of his second round match against Alcaraz, the Spanish number one ended his resistance in straight sets to move into the third round.

The defending champion, who had knocked Dominik Koepfer out in his opener after his opponent retired from their match in the second set, registered a 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Djere here. The match lasted two and a half hours.

The first couple of sets went Alcaraz’s way without too many issues for the world number one but he did face four break-points in them. It was in the third set that Alcaraz endured his toughest challenge of the tournament so far when he first saved a couple of break-points in the fourth game and then dropped his serve in the sixth.

He roared back to break in the very next game and then went on to win the tie-breaker from 4-4.

Alcaraz will now face a bit of a challenge now against the world number 28 but he is huge favourite at 1/25 (with bet365) to win this.

Evans Makes a Comeback Win Against Van De Zandschulp

It took Evans some time to get going but in the end he was able to live up to his 4/7 (with bet365) favourites odds against Botic van de Zahdnschulp in his second round victory.

Evans came back from a set down to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 42 minutes.

The two times that Evans was broken in the first set were the only instances of him dropping his serve. He faced a mere two more break-points in the remaining three sets while getting past his opponent’s serve on five occasions.

This follows a fairly straightforward win in the first round for the Washington Open champion Daniel Elahi Galan but playing against Alcaraz will be a totally different proposition.

For starters Evans hasn’t done too well against the Spaniard in best-of-three matches but then to do that in a best-of-five encounter makes it doubly difficult. Hence, it’s no surprise he is a whopping 20/1 (with bet365) to win this.

Alcaraz v Evans Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties as he looks to cruise past Evans and might even do that in straight sets with the match not seeing a single tie-breaker.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 5/6 (with bet365)
