Daria Kasatkina v Greet Minnen Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Granby Open where Kasatkina won in three sets.

Kasatkina In Another Three-Set Tussle against Kenin

For the second match in a row, Kasatkina was a bookmakers’ favourite and for the second successive time she was staring at the wrong side of the barrel when she lost the first set.

Fortunately for Kasatkina, she was able to get herself out of the quagmire with a fighting performance again and make it to the third round.

In a second round match that lasted two hours and 21 minutes, Kasatkina overcame former Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to make it to this stage at the US Open for only the third time in her career.

Three successive breaks of serves got Kenin going in the first set and the match looked to be all over bar the shouting when the American then took a 3-1 lead in the second set. Two breaks of serves followed soon after from Kasatkina that pulled her back into the contest which reached a third set.

Twice in the decider, Kenin went a break up yet again, only to lose serve the very next game. And then Kasatkina grabbed a break in the eighth game only to drop serve as she served for the match. In the 10th game of the decider, Kasatkina broke Kenin again, for the seventh time in the match to finish off the contest.

She is 3/10 with bet365 to win her third round encounter against Minnen.

Minnen Goes Past Vickery

Forced to feature in the WTA 125 and ITF tournaments because of a fall in her rankings, Minnen has improved from a season low of 225th at the start of the year to her current 97th. And by reaching the third round, Minnen has already pushed up to 69th on the WTA charts even if she goes down to Kasatkina.

This has been thanks to a string of wins for Minnen, which includes two ITF titles and four other finals appearances including two on the WTA 125 circuit.

Minnen then made it through the qualifiers here at the US Open to enter the main draw where she has already overcome Venus Williams 6-1, 6-1 and then crashed Sascha Vickery’s party in three.

A 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Vickery has meant that Minnen will now be playing in the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2021 US Open and only the second time in her career overall.

Can she shrug off the 11/4 odds against her at bet365 to surprise Kasatkina?

Kasatkina v Minnen Prediction and Tip

Backing Kasatkina for a win but a fighting one at that with Minnen’s hunger to succeed making it doubly difficult for her opponent.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Minnen to win a set: 10/11 (with bet365)
