Barbora Krejcikova v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head

Krejcikova leads the rivalry 2-0; she got her most recent win over the Ukrainian at the Australian Open this year.

Krejcikova On a Four-Match Losing Streak

World no. 13 Barbora Krejcikova hasn’t been in good touch recently. The Czech had last won a match in the first round at Wimbledon and since then she has suffered four losses on the trot.

Most recently she suffered a straight sets defeat to Lucia Bronzetti in the first round at the US Open.

Having not won a match in over two months will put pressure on Krejcikova, but the Czech is a fine player and will be eager to recapture the early season form that saw her win her maiden WTA 1000 crown in Dubai and finish runner-up in Birmingham.

Overall, the 27-year-old former world no. 2 is 25-16 this season. She may be a bit short on confidence at present but one good match could turn things around for her. Could that happen in the round of 16 contest in San Diego, which will also be the opener for the fourth seed, who received a first round bye.

If Krejcikova wins, she will reach a third quarterfinal in 2023.

Kalinina Battles Past Pliskova

Anhelina Kalinina put up a brave performance in the opening round of the San Diego Open to beat Karolina Pliskova and reach the round of 16.

In a two hour and 34 minute contest, the Ukrainian saved two set points in the first set, was bageled in the second and found herself a break down early in the third, yet she found a way to edge out the Czech player 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 6-3.

The world no. 28 Kalinina faced 20 break points in the match and she saved 15 of them. In contrast, she held just nine break points and converted just three of them. She also won nine fewer points than Pliskova’s 104 in the match, yet it was her ability to win the most crucial points in the match that helped her clinch the contest.

Kalinina, who reached her maiden WTA 1000 final in Rome this year, improved to 21-20 across levels. She has had an up and down season so far and has been inconsistent lately, but the first round win will give her a lot of confidence and she will be looking to reach a third WTA quarterfinal of the season with a win over the struggling Krejcikova in the round of 16.

Krejcikova v Kalinina Prediction and Tip

There is a bit of concern about Krejcikova’s recent form, but she is the superior player in the contest and also has a 2-0 record against the Ukrainian. Kalinina will test the fourth seed for sure, but the latter should emerge victorious and reach the last eight stage.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Krejcikova to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
