Xinyu Wang v Himeno Sakatsume Head to Head

Wang Subdues Fighting Teichmann

Wang continued with her good form as she downed a spirited challenge from Jil Teichmann to reach the second round in Osaka.

Having made it to the main draw here after reaching the fourth round at the US Open last week, Wang did not waste her good form as she managed a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Teichmann here.

In a match lasting a shade over two hours, Wang lost her serve three times but still managed to come back and get past her opponent. In the first set, her opponent had a chance to serve it out at 5-3 but Wang came back to break her Teichmann, save a set-point in the 12th game before sealing off the tie-breaker.

She grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second and while Teichmann did find a way back by levelling things out at 2-2, Wang got past her serve yet again to clinch the victory.

She will now start off a heavy, 1/3 favourite (at bet365) to win her second round encounter against a player ranked 184th in the world.

Sakatsume Eases Past Eala

Alexandra Eala is currently at her career-best ranking of 195th in the world and had made it through to the main draw on the back of successive qualifying wins. Her recent performances at the lower circuits have been strong enough for her to not start longer than 1/1 for a win against Sakatsume but it was the local girl who came through in the end.

In fact, Sakatsume needed a mere hour and 14 minutes to grab a win, defeating her 19-year-old opponent 6-0, 6-3.

After racing off to three breaks in a row and bagelling her opponent in the first set, Sakatsume faced a bit of a challenge in the early parts of the second. Eala looked to be showing signs of resilience when she levelled things out at 2-2 with a break of serve but once Sakatsume had broken right back to go 3-2 up, there was no looking back.

Soon after, Sakatsume broke Eala for the sixth time in the encounter to seal her win and move into round two.

Things can be expected to get a lot tougher for her now as she starts off a 5/2 underdog with bet365 in this encounter.

Wang v Sakatsume Prediction and Tip

Wang should not have a lot of issues taming her Japanese opponent despite all the home support against her. A straight-set win can be expected here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wang to win in straight sets: 4/5 (with bet365)
