Safiullin Searching For Consistency
Roman Safiullin has done really well in recent years to become a pretty solid tennis player, but he’s still plagued with a lack of consistency. The Russian has powerful weapons and likes to play attacking tennis, but you have to be consistent with it because if you’re not, you’re going to lose a lot of matches you should win.
That’s kind of what has happened to him this year, even though he has a very strong record of 30-20. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks, but this is a matchup that he should win if he plays his best.
The question is whether he will play his best against a player who is very consistent for the most part. Being in Chengdu for the first time will need some adjusting as will playing Nakashima for the first time.
Like many times, the serve will be crucial for Safiullin because it will either allow him or won’t to play the way he likes to play.

Nakashima Desperate For Wins
Many expected Brandon Nakashima to have a really strong year after some solid performances in the previous year, but it didn’t happen. Ever since he kind of disappointed with his showing in Australia, Nakashima struggled to really put together some solid performances, missing some time as well.
The American is only 12-19 on the year, which isn’t close to what he showed in the previous year or what his talent is capable of. Let’s see if he can turn things around in the Far East, but he didn’t get the easier opponent in round one.
This matchup is more like something you’d see in a quarter-final of an event like this, but here we are. To win, Nakashima will need to keep Safiullin away from any chances. The Russian is a capable shot-maker, so if he gets a chance, he’ll take it.
The serve will play a part in that, so expect a really close one here.
Safiullin v Nakashima Prediction and Tip
This one is very tough to call. Either player could really win, but I expect a close on, possibly three sets. In that sense, the over seems like the most likely outcome.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
