Maria Sakkari v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players, all of which came in hardcourt competitions. Sakkari has won them all including one in the qualifiers of the New Haven Open in 2016. Their most recent match, however, came in 2019.

While Sakkari is ranked in the top 10 of the WTA charts and was playing against someone who has never been a top-100 player, there were those doubts about her form that made one wonder if she could cruise through as comfortably as the odds of 1/6 (at bet365) suggested.

Giorgi Faces No Issues Against Bucsa
Having registered a straight-set win over Mayar Sherif in the first round of this competition, Giorgi celebrated her maiden win here with a crushing victory over Cristina Bucsa in the second round.
Giorgi was on court for 69 minutes as she carved out a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Bucsa to seal her third round spot against a struggling Sakkari.
Interestingly, two of the three games that Giorgi lost were on her own serve but she broke her opponent a whopping six times to capture the win.
These two victories follow three successive defeats for Giorgi who had fallen in the second round of the Montreal Open, before failing to qualify for the Cincinnati Open and losing in the US Open opener.
