Lorenzo Musetti v Philip Sekulic Head to Head

Musetti and Sekulic have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Musetti on a Three-Match Losing Streak

In the eight tournaments leading up to the Cincinnati Masters last month, Musetti had won at least two successive matches in each of them. What was fascinating about this kind of consistency was those wins had come across all three types of surfaces – clay, grass and hardcourts.

Which is why, Musetti will not worry too much about his recent spate of defeats.

The Italian was dumped out in straight sets by Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters before getting shocked by 6/1 underdog (with bet365) Titouan Droguet at the US Open. And playing for Italy at the Davis Cup, Musetti then fell to a straight set loss to Gabriel Diallo, leaving him with a few question-marks over his form.

That being said, Musetti will know he will need to adapt quickly enough to the Asian swing as he looks to continue on his hunt of breaking into the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

Following a first round bye, Musetti starts off a 1/10 with bet365 to win this second round encounter.

Sekulic Stuns Borges

The 20-year-old Australian, Sekulic has never been ranked better than 323rd in the world and came through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw. In the second of those qualifying rounds, Sekulic was 8/5 (with bet365) to win it and did so in three sets.

This changed to 10/3 odds against Nuno Borges in his opener, which wasn’t too surprising. What was surprising was to see Sekulic put up the kind of show that he did against Borges.

In a match lasting two hours and 36 minutes, Sekulic showed he belongs to the highest level many times during the match. Like when he came from a break down in the first set to clinch it with a late break in the 12th game.

Or when one thought he had lost the initiative when he lost his serve in the 11th game of the second set and with it the set.

But Sekulic fought back in the decider, breaking Borges twice to grab a 3-1 lead and then sealed the match in the ninth game.

He might start off as 7/2 odds underdog (at bet365) here but he looks to have done enough to expect him to put up another fight here.

Musetti v Sekulic Prediction and Tip

Musetti is the bookmakers’ favourite and there is no other way around it – a straight-set win looks likely with a fight in one of them.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Musetti to win in straight sets: 2/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
