Carlos Alcaraz v Yannick Hanfmann Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit in 2019 and Alcaraz had won that match in straight sets.

Alcaraz Returns after US Open

One of the top two favourites to win his second Grand Slam title of the season, Alcaraz was shocked by Daniil Medvedev in their semifinal encounter. It meant that the then-world-number one would lose his number one ranking to Novak Djokovic who went on to win that tournament.

Alcaraz had earlier made the final of the Cincinnati Masters where he went down to Djokovic in a gruelling three-setter, and together with the US Open performance and a title win in Indian Wells Masters earlier, gives him a 21-4 win-loss record in hardcourt competitions this season.

This is already better than his performances last season in which Alcaraz had ended the year at 21-6 on that surface.

What Alcaraz will now want is to get started with the Asian swing in the lead-up to the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals as he looks to regain the season-ending number one spot again. He is 1/33 to win this (odds offered by bet365).

Hanfmann Wins Surprise Qualifying Rounds to Make Main Draw

Before coming into the qualifiers of this tournament, Hanfmann had been struggling to get himself going in hardcourt competitions, having lost three consecutive matches in their respective opening rounds.

Which is why when he took on the Serbian pair of Dusan Lajovic and Miomir Kecmanovic in his two qualifiers at this competition, he was the second favourite at both.

Against Lajovic, Hanfmann started out a bit of an underdog at 1/1 (bet365) and clinched a straight-set win following a close second set. This was followed by the Kecmanovic encounter in which Hanfmann went in as an 8/5 underdog with bet365 and again, a straight-set win followed.

This was an even easier victory, with Hanfmann dropping just four games in the process.

Unfortunately for Hanfmann he has been drawn to take on the world number two in his opener and that could imply only one thing – another opening round exit.

Alcaraz v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz is a favourite here which goes without saying but we also think he will win it in a straightforward manner, dropping barely anything.
