Alexander Shevchenko v Hamad Medjedovic Head to Head

While they have never faced off at the highest level before this, they did play each other on the Futures circuit in 2020 and Medjedovic had won that match in straight sets in a hardcourt competition.

Shevchenko Stuns van de Zandschulp

It took Shevchenko a mere hour and 38 minutes to overturn the 2/1 odds (with bet365) on offer for his win as he stunned Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round of this tournament.

Shevchenko registered a 6-4, 6-3 win over his Dutch opponent as he warded off a break of serve against him in each of the two sets to clinch the win. In turn, Shevchenko broke van de Zandschulp on four occasions, sealing off his second round berth in the process.

This will be the first time in nearly two months that Shevchenko will take to court in a second round match at the highest level of tennis.

At the Washington Open in the first week of August, Shevchenko had made round three with wins over Maxime Cressy and Sebastian Korda but since then had lost four successive main draw matches.

Can he now make it two in two yet again? bet365 doesn’t have him as a favourite with a win offer of 11/10.

Medjedovic Wins Battle of the Serbs

Taking on fellow Serbian player Laslo Djere in the first round of this tournament, Medjedovic did not take a lot of time to get past him despite starting out a 2/1 underdog (at bet365) in that encounter.

Medjedovic led Djere 6-3, 2-1 before Djere retired from the encounter, leaving his opponent with a very good chance of improving even further from his current career-best ranking of 120th in the world.

Having entered this tournament on the back of a Challenger title win at Mallorca – which was his third – Medjedovic has already climbed up the rankings ladder from being 261st in the world to his current ranking.

If he can go deep into the latter couple of rounds of this tournament, there is every chance that Medjedovic could get close to breaking into the top 100 of the ATP Rankings if not actually get there. That might be a bit of an added pressure on him but Medjedovic starts off an 8/11 favourite here with bet365.

Shevchenko v Medjedovic Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a gritty battle but with Medjedovic having shown the kind of form that he has in recent times, backing him for a win won’t be such a bad idea.
