Daria Kasatkina v Mayar Sherif Head to Head

Kasatkina and Sherif have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Kasatkina at the Receiving End of Horror Loss

It was one of those days she would like to forget quickly. Featuring in the Tokyo Open last week, Kasatkina made the quarterfinals there with wins over Marta Kostyuk and Despina Papamichail but was then drawn to face Jessica Pegula in that last eight encounter.

Not too many expected her to win given Pegula’s good form but not too many expected her to go down the manner in which she did too, losing 6-1, 6-0 to her American opponent.

Overall though, Kasatkina has managed to do a reasonable job in recent times.

In hardcourt tennis, Kasatkina has raked up a win-loss record of 11-5 since the end of Wimbledon and now going up against a player who is known for her clay-court play, she will be a huge favourite to win this (1/4 with bet365).

Sherif in a Bit of a Form Rut

Sherif has had the best tennis season of her career so far in 2023 and that helped her propel to 31st in the world recently. Unfortunately for her, most of that was down to her performances on clay which has meant that when tennis has shifted over to the hardcourt swing, things have gone rather south for Sherif.

For starters, she lost successive matches on clay in Palermo and Hamburg.

Since then, however, it’s become even worse. Sherif has fallen in the first rounds of the Montreal Open, US Open and more recently in Guadalajara. She limped to a win in Cincinnati against Xiyu Wang but went on to lose in the second.

That has given her an overall win-loss of 4-11 on hardcourt surfaces with only three of them having come in the main draw.

No surprises then she is a distant 16/5 underdog here (at bet365) to win this.

Kasatkina v Sherif Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina should not have any issues in disposing her opponent away, winning in straight sets as a result.
