Carlos Alcaraz v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

There have been six previous meetings between these two players at the highest level and rather interestingly, it’s 3-3 on head to head. This includes two matches which were played earlier this year in which both won one.

Sinner had won in their last meeting which came in Miami having lost to Alcaraz in the Indian Wells Masters two weeks ago.

Alcaraz Eases Past Ruud

Casper Ruud tried to put up a fight in the first set of their quarterfinal but Alcaraz proved to be too strong for his opponent as he carved out a straight-set win over his Norwegian opponent.

In a match that Ruud managed to extend to an hour and 45 minutes by the end, Alcaraz triumphed 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semifinal.

A solid start for Ruud saw him go 3-0 up in the first set but once Alcaraz regained control of his serving there was no looking back. The world number two broke Ruud in the fifth game and added three more to his name in the match.

In return, Alcaraz faced a further one break-point which he saved easily.

This win follows two earlier straight-set wins for Alcaraz, with the Spaniard having dispatched Yannick Hanfmann and Lorenzo Musetti in quick succession. All of a sudden, however, the quality of opposition will rise for Alcaraz and it will be interesting to see how he matches up to it despite starting out a favourite.

Sinner Involved in a Three-Setter with Dimitrov

In what turned out to be a cagey quarterfinal encounter right till the very end, Grigor Dimitrov put up a sterling fight against Sinner but it was the Italian player who came through in the end.

Sinner needed two hours and 32 minutes to go past Dimitrov, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

What was interesting about the encounter was that there were 23 break-points on offer for both players in total and till Dimitrov was broken for the second time in the final game of the match there had been only one break of serve in each of the three sets.

Sinner had earlier faced an equally difficult first round clash with Dan Evans in which he required three sets and one tie-breaker to go past his British opponent.

Needless to say, things won’t be getting any easier from this point onward as he faces the world number two here.

Alcaraz v Sinner Prediction and Tip

Backing Alcaraz to avenge his loss to Sinner in Miami and come away a winner. Might not be a straightforward victory though.
