Mannarino Wins Astana Open
Coming into this Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, Mannarino has a solid season going for him.
In fact such has been his performance this year that the 35-year-old veteran of nearly two decades of professional tennis has climbed up to 23rd on the ATP charts. His career-best ranking of 22nd came five years ago and he is just a notch behind at the moment.
Not only that, he is also close to breaking into the top 20 – and it isn’t often do you see a 35-year-old enter the top 20 of the rankings for the first time in his – or her – career!
That has been possible thanks to a string of consistent performances this season including two titles – one on the grass courts of Newport and another at the Astana Open in the lead-up to the Shanghai Masters.
He will start a huge favourite here.

Tseng Registers Comeback Win
Playing against Alexander Shevchenko in his opener, Chinese Taipei qualifier Tseng came back from a set down to seal his place in the second round.
With odds of 7/5 for his win in this match, Tseng looked to be doing down the path that was expected out of him as he lost his serve twice in the first set without any retaliation.
The turnaround came in the second when Tseng held on to his serve in the first six games before getting the better of Shevchenko’s in the seventh. Another break of serve sealed the deal.
Emboldened now and with the new-found confidence greatly rubbing on to his game, Tseng broke Shevchenko two more times in the third set to complete a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win. It was his first on hardcourts for the year.
Can he stave off the experienced Mannarino’s threat here?
