For the third tournament in a row, Dimitrov clinched successive wins and made the third round when he took to court at the China Open. What would have added to that stat is the opponents against whom he won those matches in Beijing.
He first overcame Mackenzie McDonald, a tricky opponent in his own right but more vitally Dimitrov snuck past Holger Rune in the second. It took the eventual winner Jannik Sinner to take him out.
Dimitrov had earlier defeated Alex Molcan, Andy Murray, Juan Pablo Varillas and Christopher O’Connell in the previous two tournaments, an indicator he’s in the kind of rhythm that players outside of the top 20 do find him difficult to face.

Vukic in Straight-Set Win over Carballes Baena
While Roberto Carballes Baena has had a decent season, one of his rare ones in recent times, Vukic knew he was heading into the match with an advantage.
Why is that? Because Carballes Baena is more a clay court competitor.
And Vukic took full advantage of that, defeating his Spanish opponent 6-4, 7-6 (7), with the match lasting over two hours and eight minutes. Vukic broke once in the first and then traded serves in the second before clinching it off his third match-point.
He could make things difficult for Dimitrov in this encounter having made the final of the Atlanta Open, third round in Toronto and the third round at the Winston-Salem Open as well.
