The fans are eagerly anticipating the title defense of Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon 2024. We bring you all the details for the event and how you can be a part of Wimbledon by getting Wimbledon tickets.

The fans are already making plans for the next year’s Wimbledon and gearing up to see the world’s best tennis stars going hand to hand in the English court. We will be providing you with the details of the 2024 Wimbledon and the Wimbledon tickets details, but before that, let’s take a look at the special achievement of Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon 2023.

End of Men’s Tennis’ Monopoly

Carlos Alcaraz put his name in the grand slam winners list after winning Wimbledon 2023 but it wasn’t just another grand slam win. The significance of this win is multiplied as it shows the end of a monopoly created by Tennis’ big 3, namely Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The monopoly these three tennis stars created began when Carlos Alcaraz was just a few months old.

Carlos Alcaraz, a 20-year Spanish prodigy, put up an instant classic in the grand final match, which went down to the wire, and Alcaraz won the Wimbledon title in the fifth and final set of the match. The match had all the ingredients and moments which gave the picture of an era-shifting scene.

Carlos Alcaraz entered the event as the world No. 1 but his ranking was lacking authenticity as he rose to the grand stage with his first grand slam win in last year’s US Open. However, the lack of authenticity stems from the fact that Novak Djokovic wasn’t participating in the US Open, which Alcaraz won, and Djokovic earned no points for his All England Club Victory a few months prior to it.

So, for much of the last year Tennis world was moving forward with two world No. 1s. Carlos Alcaraz being the world No. 1 on paper, and Novak Djokovic enjoyed the No. 1 spot in people’s eyes. Simply put, it was believed that Alcaraz rose to No. 1 spot because Djokovic wasn’t there.

The stage was set for both the tennis stars to become the undisputed king of tennis and refute other’s claim by winning the Wimbledon 2023. Djokovic entered the tournament on the back of a 34-match winning streak starting from 2018 and was the hot favourite to win yet another grand slam title but Carlos Alcaraz surprised many.

Carlos Alcaraz created history by defeating Novak Djokovic in a five-set, five-hour thriller and earned people’s respect, and became the true world No. 1.

A lot will ride on Novak Djokovic’s shoulders when he enters the Wimbledon 2024, as the 36 year old Serbian legend will look to add another Wimbledon championship in his resume. In doing so, he will be able to equal Roger Federer’s record of winning eight Wimbledon titles. Furthermore, he will have to wait at least one more year to attain the calendar Grand Slam.

It will be very interesting to see if Djokovic will be able to do that, given the speed of Alcaraz’s rise.

The only other victory that comes somewhat close to Carlos Alcaraz’s win was the US Open defeat of Novak Djokovic in 2021 against Daniil Medvedev, when Djokovic was even closer to the calendar Grand Slam.

Alcaraz has all the potential to be the true king of tennis and dethroning the richly acclaimed top three of tennis. Many have tried to do the honors but could not succeed, but Alcaraz seems to give the right kind of hope. He has all the ingredients to be the king by dethroning them rather than wait for Djokovic and Nadal to retire and join Federer.

After Alcaraz’s win, Djokovic in his runner-up speech sportingly appreciated the quality of Alcaraz and also accepted the threat of Alcaraz not only on the clay and hardcourt but a threat to his tennis altogether after Wimbledon 2023.

Talk about the resilience of Alcaraz, how he managed to pull this feat after he was let down by his body when he couldn’t beat Djokovic in the French Open semifinals a month before the Wimbledon started.

He openly admitted that Nick Kyrgios has better chance to defeat Djokovic than himself. However, Alcaraz showed his potential in his victory in the traditional lead-up event at the Queen’s Club. It was a signal that he has upgraded from novice to master status on the grasscourt.

The Game

In the opening stages of the Wimbledon final, Carlos Alcaraz showed nerves and was on the verge of being humiliated. The moment where he saved a crucial set point in the second set was the point where he got up from the mat and started trading blows and eventually won the second set through an epic tiebreaker win.

The third set was, in essence, the true coronation of the new tennis king, where he stunned Djokovic with thunderous forehands, top-notch serves, some newly acquired slice shots, and a handful of drop shots.

Djokovic weathered the storm from the third set and came roaring back in the fourth set and made Alcaraz wait longer for his greatest achievement. Djokovic forced a deciding final set and at that point in time looked the likely winner.

The start of final set was pleasing to the spectators eyes as the two players traded blows and absorbed the pressure. Finally a point came where it looked like it is all over when Djokovic brought up the break point in second game and dominated the next point, only for Alcaraz to hang on and witness legendary Djokovic unexpectedly hit a forehand shot into the net.

Alcaraz only needed that sliver of a chance and never looked back from there. Alcaraz brought the set to a tie and then, with a superb backhand, took the break, causing Djokovic to smash his racquet on the net post.

It is famously said the final hurdle is the toughest. Alcaraz looked set to win the title, but he was set to serve for the title. The pressure, the expectations, the future – all were right in front of the young Spaniard.

30-all, final hanging in the balance, but the next two points did come, and Alcaraz became the Wimbledon champion for the first time. Tears were in full flow, and we witnessed the start of something special.
