Benoit Paire v Pablo Andujar Head to Head
The two players have met thrice on the ATP Tour and Paire has won on all of those occasions. Two of those matches were played on the outdoor clay surface. Paire’s most recent win over Andujar came in the 2013 ATP Barcelona.
A Brilliant Result for Paire
Paire’s performance in Marrakech has been fairly impressive, particularly his semifinal game against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He made it to the semis on the back of comfortable wins against Aljaz Bedene, Pierre-Hughes Herbert, and Jaume Munar.
Then, in the semis, he faced his first real test against a resurgent Tsonga and surprisingly, he came out on the top. Paire delivered one of the most remarkable victories of his career after defeating his compatriot 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
This win also brings Paire one step closer to the second singles title of his career. His one and only singles title came in 2015 in the ATP Bastad. Since then, he has reached only final on the tour, in the 2017 ATP Metz.
Needless to mention, it is also Paire’s best performance of the season. In all the ATP events he has played in, he has never managed to make it past the early rounds.
Andujar’s Remarkable Run
The 33-year-old Spaniard is on a breathtaking winning streak right now. Before coming to Marrakech, the three-time Grand Prix Hassan II champion played in a couple of Challenger events in Marbella and Alicante. He won on both the occasions, with those two tournaments wins elevating his form to a whole different level.
His season so far has been along the similar lines as that of Paire’s – early losses in ATP events. But in Marrakech, he turned it around with some excellent tennis.
He has won all of his matches in straight sets, moving past Federico Delbonis, Philipp Kohlschreiber, and Jiri Vesely, although against Vesely, he got a walkover. In the semifinal, he defeated the number four seed Gilles Simon 6-1, 6-1, in what turned out to be a highly clinical performance by the Spaniard.
Paire v Andujar Predictions & Tips
Andujar’s performance over the last week in Marrakech has been nothing short of sensational. Moreover, he sent out a strong message in the semifinal with his superb win over Simon. He is determined to win the tournament one more time and he is willing to work hard for it.
At the same time, Paire just defeated a player stronger than him and has never looked this sharp before in this season. All in all, this will be a good game to watch,
