Novak Djokovic v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head
Djokovic and Medvedev have met thrice on the ATP Tour and the Serbian has won on all of those three occasions. They met as recently as the Australian Open earlier this year, with the top seed winning that match in four sets.
Djokovic Looking Confident in Monte-Carlo
The Serbian looks highly determined to make amends for his recent loss in the form in Monte Carlo. Of late, he has been playing some level of intensity that we missed previously.
In his opening match, he defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber and then, he stormed past Taylor Fritz with 6-3, 6-0. Djokovic’s match against the American lasted only for an hour and eight minutes, with the Serb winning 70% of his first service points.
The Monte-Carlo Masters is one of the few Masters events where Djokovic hasn’t been that clinical in recent years. He last won the tournament in 2015 following which, he failed to repeat that feat again. The closest he came to was in 2017 when he reached the quarterfinal.
The reigning Australian Open champion lost in the early rounds in the Indian Wells Open and Miami Masters, in what proved to be rather surprising losses. Nonetheless, with clay season now underway, Djokovic so far has looked quite good.
Medvedev Dispatches Tsitsipas with Ease
In the third round, Daniil Medvedev met Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Russian headed into the fixture on the back of a 3-0 lead in the head to head tally.
On Thursday, he added to that lead with yet another three-set win over the Greek. The match lasted for an hour and 45 minutes and saw Medvedev take the match with 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. His first service win rate was at an impressive 80%.
Before Tsitsipas, Medvedev moved past the likes of Joao Sousa and Radu Albot in straight sets, losing just five games in the process. His season so far has been along the similar lines. With a win-loss record of 17-6 as of Miami Masters and a singles title from the ATP Sofia, Medvedev has been making waves on the tour this year.
At the same time, he has been handed rather surprising defeats too, notably at the hands of Filip Krajinovic, Ricardas Berankis, and Marton Fucsovics.
The 23-year-old is moving closer to a top 10 entry and a win here over Djokovic will certainly help his cause. Medvedev reached the final in Brisbane earlier this year against all odds and he can very well cause problems here for the Serb.
Djokovic v Medvedev Predictions & Tips
Djokovic is going to start this game as the overwhelming favourite to win. With a 3-0 lead over the Russian and numerous feats to his name, it will be hard to imagine him succumbing to a confident albeit, inexperienced player.
However, the number 10 seed can seek solace from the fact that he has defeated many top 10 players through the course like Tsitsipas, Milos Raonic, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori, Stan Wawrinka, David Goffin, and others. He has the skillset and the talent – all he needs is endurance and some motivation to give Djokovic a good fight.
Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 8/11 (888Sport)
