Great Britain will have Kyle Edmund, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans feature in the main draw of the men’s singles section of the 2019 French Open.
This was after Evans got a direct entry into the competition that will be played in Roland-Garros next month on account of his action. Earlier, both, Edmund and Norrie were already assured of a place in the tournament after they were ranked within the stipulated rankings on the cut-off date.
In the women’s singles draw, Johanna Konta and Katie Boulter have both got a direct entry while there might be a few who would be baying for a spot via the qualifying rounds.
Evans, who lost in the Monte-Carlo Masters qualifiers to Marcel Granollers in three sets, hasn’t played in the main draw of the French Open since losing in the first round of the tournament in 2017. He was later banned for a year for taking cocaine and is now looking to climb back in the rankings ladder.
Last year, Edmund managed to make it to the third round at Roland-Garros while Norrie was ousted a round earlier than that. And it’s even worse for Konta, who has never won a main draw match at the French Open. This will also be Boulter’s debut who will take some confidence into the tournament having helped Great Britain make it to the World Group II for the first time in Fed Cup.
The tournament begins on May 20.
