Elina Svitolina v Pauline Parmentier Head to Head
The head to head record between the two players is tied at 1-1 although, they last met back in the 2015 WTA Limoges. A lot has changed since then, of course, and this time, the Ukranian has the edge.
Svitolina Starting her Clay Season in Madrid
The World No. 6, who is the two-time defending champion in the Italian Open, took a break shortly after her opening-round defeat to Yafan Wang to recover from her injury. Svitolina has been fighting a knee injury since February but managed to post good results – semifinal in Doha, Dubai, and Indian Wells.
But clay being a tricky surface as such, demands absolute fitness and it comes as no doubt to see the Ukranian pull out of the Stuttgart Open. However, having taken enough time to rehabilitate, it now appears that she is back in action in Madrid.
Svitolina has been more or less consistent throughout this season although, she will be keen on winning a title. Her last title was the WTA Finals in 2018.
Parmentier Looking for Some Inspiration
In 2018, Parmentier ended her title drought after roughly 10 years by winning the Istanbul Cup and WTA Quebec. That feat was nothing short of inspiring and has prompted the 33-year-old Frenchwoman to continue her pursuits on the WTA Tour.
However, like many players, Parmentier too has been struggling with her form quite a bit this season. She has certainly been a lot more active than Svitolina, with appearances in Shenzhen, Hobart, Hua Hin, Budapest, Acapulco, and so on. In all of those tournaments, she lost in the early rounds.
She started her clay run in Charleston and since then, has played in Lugano and Istanbul but never made it past the second round.
Svitolina v Parmentier Predictions & Tips
Svitolina is coming off an injury and it will be interesting to see how she fares on clay. Lucky for her, she faces an opponent who has been out of form for most of the season so far. Nonetheless, Parmentier may have some aces up her sleeve and can very well put the Ukranian on the backfoot.
