Petra Kvitova v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

Kvitova currently holds a massive 6-1 lead over her French adversary. They last met in Cincinnati last year, where Kvitova won 6-4, 6-2.

Mladenovic’s Disastrous Spell

Kristina Mladenovic, who was the runner-up right here in Madrid back in 2017, has since then undergone a massive loss in form. As a doubles player, she has fared beautifully, reaching the women’s doubles final in the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open with Timea Babos.

But as a singles player, things haven’t been the same. This time around in Madrid, she had to start as a qualifier and made it to the main draw after a good fight.

In fact, she didn’t win her first singles match this season up until in Dubai, where she reached the third round after upsetting Naomi Osaka. However, Mladenovic never really managed to retain that form and lost early once again in Miami and Indian Wells. Since then, she reached the quarterfinal in Monterrey and Istanbul. In the latter, she lost to Petra Martic in a match that lasted for over three years.

In Madrid, she had a positive start with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Barbora Strycova.

Business as Usual for Kvitova

Shortly after winning the Stuttgart Open, her second title of the season and the fifth on clay, Kvitova arrived in Madrid full of confidence and momentum. In addition to Sydney and Stuttgart, World No. 2 also reached the final in Melbourne and Dubai.

She has been clinical to an extent not seen in other players this season. With a win-loss record of 25-6, she is slowly climbing her way to the No. 1 position. Her opening game in the Madrid Open saw her face Sofia Kenin, whom she defeated 6-1, 6-4, in an hour and 18 minutes.

Kvitova v Mladenovic Predictions & Tips

Kvitova is at a level where it will be difficult for Mladenovic to put up a tough fight, let alone cause a massive upset. This one should end in a comfortable win for the Czech.
