Petra Kvitova v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
The two players share a fierce rivalry, with Kvitova currently leading Garcia by 4-3. They last met in the Miami Open earlier this year, where the Czech won in straight sets. This upcoming fixture, however, is their first encounter on the clay surface.
Garcia Looking Confident
The 2017 China Open champion has so far had a pretty good run in Madrid. Starting with Su-Wei Hsieh in the first round, she defeated Sorana Cirstea in three sets to set up the Kvitova clash.
So far this season, Garcia hasn’t looked that consistent or even in form, for that matter. She is way off the rhythm she had back in the 2017-2018 season when she swiftly paved her way to the top 10. Garcia’s best result of the season came in Miami Open, where she reached the fourth round after upsetting Victoria Azarenka and Julia Goerges.
She played in Stuttgart recently, where she lost in the first round to Anett Kontaveit. That defeat pretty much summed up her 2019 season so far – a disappointing spell of early exits.
Kvitova in a Mythical Form
World No. 2 Kvitova has had a pretty fantastic season so far. Two singles titles in, including the one from the Stuttgart Open, she is riding on a wave of momentum. Moreover, she also reached the final in Melbourne and Dubai.
Kvitova is undoubtedly the player to beat in Madrid. She is in an impeccable rhythm right now and has clearly demonstrated her prowess and skills with efficient wins over the likes of Sofia Kenin and Kristina Mladenovic here. She hasn’t dropped a set yet and by the looks of it, it won’t happen against Garcia either.
At the same time, she has lost only six matches so far this year of which, three came against Venus Williams, Ashleigh Barty, and Belinda Bencic.
Kvitova v Garcia Predictions & Tips
Garcia has defeated Kvitova thrice in her career but those wins came almost three years ago. Plus, none of them came on the clay surface, where the Czech is absolutely clinical and lethal. While this may prove to be a challenge for the number two seed, she should emerge victorious in the end.
Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (888Sport)
