Petra Kvitova v Kiki Bertens Head to Head
Since that eventful Madrid Open final last year, Kvitova and Bertens have met thrice on the tour. The overall tally is in Kvitova’s favour with 3-2.
While Bertens defeated the Czech in Montreal and Cincinnati, she lost to her in the semifinal of the Stuttgart Open a few weeks back.

Bertens and Kvitova were placed in the same section and were destined to reach the quarterfinal from the beginning. Both of them have been absolutely brilliant and have made it so far without dropping a single set.

Between the two, Bertens has been far more clinical, losing just 15 games in the process in comparison to Kvitova’s 20.
However, by no means does this imply that Kvitova is an inferior player to Bertens.
Kvitova’s Impeccable Run vs Bertens’ Rise
Bertens has had a massive breakthrough this season, reaching her career-best singles ranking as World No. 6. She won the St. Petersburg Open and later reached the fourth round in Miami and Charleston. Also, in her run to the semifinal in Stuttgart, she defeated Angelique Kerber and Belinda Bencic.
The number 7 seed is a clay specialist, with the first seven finals of her career coming on this very surface. She won her first hard court tournament only last year.
Meanwhile, Kvitova has been in an astounding form of late and so far, has continued her title defence with absolute finesse. She won the second title of her season in Stuttgart and reached her fourth final on the tour this year. She was a runner-up in Melbourne and Dubai.
With a win-loss record of 25-6, it is hard to imagine her losing her form anytime soon. Kvitova has been among the most consistent players this season and it is by that virtue that she became World No. 2 again.
Kvitova v Bertens Tips and Predictions
Kvitova will start this match as the odds-on favourite to win. She may have lost to Bertens on hard courts but clay is an entirely different ball game – one where she is particularly good. However, given Bertens’ preference and expertise on clay, she can very well make this the first time that she upsets Kvitova here. This is going to be a tight match but an entertaining one nonetheless.
