By the looks of things, it already seems so. There were two back-to-back first round losses on clay for the Pole at Monte-Carlo and Budapest and he needed to go through the qualifiers to make it to the opening round of this tournament in Madrid.
And that was followed by two, straight-set wins over Alex de Minaur and Lucas Pouille, making it four matches in a row in which he hasn’t lost a set. Comparing this with last year again, he was participating in a Challenger this week and went down in the first round which is another pointer how much he has improved apart from the fact he would earn a good bump up his points again irrespective of the result
