Stanislas Wawrinka v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head

The players have met twice on the ATP tour, both times on hard court and are tied at 1-1.

Wawrinka Looking for a Title Before Roland-Garros

Stanislas Wawrinka returns to Geneva where he was the champion in both 2016 and 2017. The 2015 French Open champion returned to the circuit last year after a long injury layoff. Once ranked number three in the world on the ATP tour, Wawrinka had fallen out of the top 200 due to his long layoff. He has made his way back to the top 30 as he hopes to make further inroads.

Wawrinka’s return to the tour has been somewhat chequered with some inspiring victories and some humiliating defeats. A mix of deep runs and early losses at tournaments has been the story of the Wawrinka comeback and the Swiss is desperately looking for more consistency going into the French Open, with other major tournaments to follow soon thereafter.

With one of the best single handed backhands on the tour, Wawrinka has a very powerful baseline game on both wings, backed by a strong serve. The Swiss has displayed some of his most explosive play defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2015 French Open final and Andy Murray in the 2017 French Open semi-finals.

Wawrinka is looking for a confidence boosting run this week in Geneva.

Can Dzumhur Upset the Swiss at Home?

Bosnian Damir Dzumhur was the first player from his country to be ranked inside the top 30 in 2018, with a career high ranking of 23. Although his ranking has since fallen out of the top 50, Dzumhur continues to be a force to reckon with on the tour.

Having been on the tour for a little over five years, the Bosnian has had a relatively more successful last two years, with three ATP singles titles, maiden victories against top ten ranked players and qualifying for the round of 32 at all Grand Slams.

With a game that focusses immensely on the basics, Dzumhur plays well within himself with percentage tennis, and limited errors. Of late, he has developed into a good counter puncher who is able to hold his stead against varied opponents.

Dzumhur defeated Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez in a tight three-setter in the first round in Genva.

Stanislas Wawrinka v Damir Dzumhur Predictions & Tips

In recent years, Dzumhur has improved his all round game and pushed higher ranked players as well as secured victories against top ten players on the circuit. With a fluent game from the baseline, Dzumhur can cause problems for Wawrinka. However, this is Wawrinka’s favored surface and conditions he knows only too well. With the home crowd support, expect the Swiss to win in two well fought sets.

Tip: Wawrinka to win in straight sets: 4/5 (888Sport)
