Elina Svitolina v Venus Williams Head to Head

The head to head tally between the two players is tied at 1-1. They last met in the 2017 Canadian Open, where the Ukrainian won 6-2, 6-1 in a dominating performance.

Svitolina’s Form Woes

Svitolina started the season on a highly promising note. She was a part of the top five and reached the quarterfinals and beyond in Melbourne, Doha, Dubai, and Indian Wells. The number nine seed enjoyed a good run in these events but what followed next was a disappointing performance by her.

The current WTA Finals champion lost in the second round in Miami to Yafan Wang and incurred similar defeats in Madrid and Rome. As a defending champion in the Italian Open, she fell to Victoria Azarenka in the opening match.

Svitolina is currently World No. 9 and is on the brink of exiting the top 10 if she fails to deliver a good performance in Paris. She has reached the quarterfinal here on two occasions while last year, she made it as far as the third round.

Venus, still Seeking the Elusive Title in Paris

Venus Williams has enjoyed an illustrious career with 49 singles titles, including the seven Grand Slams. However, a few trophies still elude here, with the French Open cup being one of them.

She reached the final here back in 2002 while last year, she fell in the first round itself. Such a massive contrast in results can be attributed to her form in recent months. Needless to mention, Venus is yet to have an awe-inspiring run this year.

The 2017 Wimbledon runner-up reached the quarterfinal in Indian Wells and fourth round in Miami. She last played in the Italian Open where she fell to Johanna Konta in the third round.

It is worth mentioning that most of her defeats this year have been at the hands of Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, and a surprising one to Bianca Andreescu.

Venus Williams v Elina Svitolina Predictions & Tips

Venus is light years ahead in terms of experience but when we consider her recent form and energy, Svitolina will start as the odds-on favourite here. However, the American has still got a lot of tennis left in her and she can very well come out firing on all cylinders.

This is going to be a high-octane match that can possibly go either way.
