Petra Kvitova v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
The two players have quite a history between them, having met a total of 7 times on the WTA Tour. Kvitova presently leads by 5-2 and has won all of their encounters on the clay courts.
They last met in the 2016 Wimbledon, where Kvitova won 6-0, 6-4.
Kvitova in with a Shaky Form
At the moment, Kvitova is one of the most clinical players on the WTA Tour. With a win-loss record of 28/8 and two singles titles, she is among the top favourites in Paris to go the distance.
However, not everything has gone according to the plan for the Czech in recent weeks. She failed to defend her title in Madrid, losing to a very determined Kiki Bertens and later, lost in Rome to Maria Sakkari in the third round.
At the same time, she won the title in Stuttgart and Sydney this year, in addition to reaching the final in the Australian Open and WTA Dubai. Kvitova also reached the quarterfinal in Miami.
These remarkable performances are nothing short of a testimony to Kvitova’s impeccable form this season. But Paris is a place that is yet to fully understand. In all the years that she has played in the Roland Garros, Kvitova has made it to the semifinal only once.
Cirstea in With Some Confidence
Following what has been a rather disappointing spell for Sorana Cirstea, the Romanian finally got a reason to celebrate only last week.
She reached the semifinal in Nurnberg where she lost to Yulia Putintseva. That was her first such run of the season and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Before that, Cirstea succumbed mainly in the early rounds. She hasn’t been in that great of a form this season and is heading into this fixture with slim chances.
The last time she reached a final on the tour was in the 2013 Rogers Cup, where she lost to Serena Williams.
Kvitova v Cirstea Predictions & Tips
Kvitova will begin this match as the favourite. Despite her recent struggles with form, Kvitova still remains to be a formidable opponent in Paris and it is hard to imagine someone like Cirstea, who is so out of form, to deliver a massive upset right in the first round.
Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 3/4 (888Sport)
