Novak Djokovic v Roger Federer Head To Head
The two players have met 47 times on the tour, with Djokovic leading 25-22. They have met 15 times in the majors with Djokovic leading 9-6, and he leads the head-to-head 2-1 at Wimbledon.
Djokovic has won their last 4 meetings, and Federer last beat him at the ATP Tour Finals at the O2 arena in London, in the round robin stages in 2015. Federer last beat Djokovic at a major in the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2012.
Djokovic Looking at Wimbledon Title Number Five
Defending champion Novak Djokovic came to Wimbledon looking at a fourth major title victory, out of the last five he has played. He has done almost everything correct to be on track and is in yet another Wimbledon final.
Aided by a favorable draw with a number of seeds losing early, he has been challenged by Herbert Hurkacz and Roberto Bautista Agut, with both winning a set against him. However, Djokovic has countered any and all challenges and always been in control of the match.
Djokovic has looked rusty and distracted at times, but when needed, shifted gears to his clinical self and not let the opponent or the situation get the better of him. What remains to be seen is how he would respond when tested by a premier grass court specialist.
There is no better challenge on a grass court, especially at Wimbledon than his next opponent, Roger Federer.
Federer in Final After Pulsating Semi Final
Swiss maestro and eight time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer continues to defy age and critics as he in his 12th Wimbledon final. Federer was seeded second over Rafael Nadal and silenced critics with a clinical performance in the semi-finals against his arch rival in a classic four set encounter.
He has been in strong serving form all tournament and despite being pushed by little known Lloyd Harris, Japan’s Kei Nishikori and of course Nadal, has come back stronger and closed matches in clinical fashion.
A 21st major title at a few weeks before he turns 38 would put Federer further ahead in the race for all time major titles.
Djokovic v Federer Predictions & Tips
This is among the best match-ups in the sport and one that has resulted in some classic battles. Both very evenly matched as athletes, and both bring the best out in the other.
Djokovic has had a relatively smooth passage to the finals. He dropped a set in two matches but has always looked on top. Federer on the other hand had a tricky quarter final against Nishikori and the pulsating Nadal semi-final, but will be full of confidence after the latter.
Federer knows this court and this stage better than any other, and will have a very partisan crowd in his favor. He has won 8 of his 11 finals here, but lost his last two, both to Djokovic. Djokovic is undoubtedly the best player in the world today, and knows that the stage, the opponent, and the crowd are factors that he can negate better than any.
The Serb starts as a strong favorite, but one can never rule out Roger Federer at Wimbledon. It will be crucial how Federer starts, and how well he serves, against arguably the best returner the game has seen. An intense battle on the cards, and no better than Center Court at Wimbledon.
Djokovic to win his 16th major in an epic five setter.
Tip: Djokovic to win in five sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
