Nicolas Jarry v Juan Ignacio Londero Head to Head
The pair have played each other three times before, with Jarry leading their head to head series by two matches to once. Jarry won on the Challenger event in Quito in 2014, and again in Montevideo three years later, but Londero won their most recent event at the ATP tournament in Cordoba in February earlier this year.
Jarry, Third Time Lucky in a Final?
Jarry will regard Sunday’s final as his best chance yet of winning his maiden ATP title. The 23 year old reached his first final last year, his first full year on the ATP tour, but lost the Brasil Open to Fabio Fognini. This year in May he reached the final again in Geneva, losing only to Alexander Zverev in a final set tie-break.
Meanwhile, he has been forced to watch as his friend, and former doubles partner, Cristian Garin, has gone on to win two tour titles, and become Chile’s number one ranked player.
Certainly his progress through to the final this week has been relatively serene, although Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland did at least force him in to a first set-tie break, until Jarry prevailed in straight sets. Swedish qualifier Mikail Ymer was beaten by a similar margin, before he had an impressive win over Jeremy Chardy, the man who had, ironically, knocked Garin out of the tournament.
He then breezed past Federico Delbonis in the semi-finals, beating the Argentine in less than an hour for the loss of just five games.
Londero, Eyeing Second Title
25-year old Londero has spent the majority of his career on the Challenger circuit; in fact, that defeat of Jarry in Cordoba was his first on the ATP tour. However, he took full advantage of that victory in February by going on to clinch the title in his home event.
Since then he has struggled to replicate that form, but he did reach the last sixteen in Roland Garros last month, beating the 15 seed Nikoloz Basiliashvili in the process, before coming up against Rafael Nadal at his imperious best on clay.
His progress to the final in Bastad has not been as smooth as his opponent on Sunday. After beating qualifier and fellow Argentine Facundo Arguello on Monday, he was taken to three sets by Hugo Delien of Bolivia, and again by the number four seed, Richard Gasquet of France. However, he proved too powerful for Albert-Ramos Vinolas in the semi-final, beating the Spaniard in straight sets.
Jarry v Londero Predictions & Tips
This is a very tight match to predict between two men who are separated by just two places in the world rankings. Jarry is the slight odds-on favourite at 5/6, whilst Londero is 11/10. Both men will desperately want the title, but perhaps it will be third time lucky for Jarry at last.
Tip: Jarry to win in three sets: 41/13 (888Sport)
