Elina Svitolina v Sofia Kenin Head to Head
This is their second meeting on the tour this year, with the first one coming in the Indian Wells Open in 2019. Svitolina won that match in three sets.
Svitolina Riding the Momentum Wave
Ukrainian No. 1 Svitolina has found her momentum in great fashion after going through a rather tumultuous spell on the circuit. It was a loss in the form that stemmed from the short break she took to recover from knee pain.
Following a disappointing showing in the clay swing and the WTA Eastbourne, the number 6 seed arrived at the Wimbledon with high hopes. On the back of some quality tennis, she made it to the semifinal – making it her best run in a Grand Slam.
Svitolina followed that run with a quarterfinal feat in San Jose and now, she has done pretty much the same thing in Toronto too. Having won the tournament back in 2017, the current WTA Finals champion looks more than determined to repeat that feat again.
She enjoyed a bye into the second round and so far, has comfortably dispatched Katerina Siniakova and most recently Belinda Bencic. She put up a clinical performance against the Swiss, as she outgunned her with 6-2, 6-4.
Kenin, a Force to be Considered
Sofia Kenin may be just 20 years old but given the way and ferocity with which she is playing at the moment, one can easily take her for a mature, evolved player. A junior US Open runner-up, she has had a breakthrough season so far, winning two singles titles and reaching a final on one other occasion.
With a win-loss tally of 27-15, she last won the Mallorca Open where she dismantled Bencic in the final. Kenin also enjoyed a scintillating run in the French Open, where she defeated Serena Williams in the third round in straight sets.
She continued playing in the same way in Toronto too, defeating Su-Wei Hsieh and World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty to deliver her best win of the season. In the third round, she met Dayana Yastremska and moved past her with ease to set up the Svitolina clash.
Svitolina v Kenin Prediction & Tips
This is going to be a high-octane thriller that can quite possibly go either way. On one hand, Svitolina is back in her groove and is slowly finding her rhythm, just in time for the US Open. On the other hand, Kenin has already added quite a list of players to her win column and she will fancy adding the Ukranian too. The American has clearly got what it takes to win here.
